PSC exam written in 2005, appointment arrives in 2026 as Malappuram man receives advice memo at 61

Malappuram: A Public Service Commission (PSC) appointment order is usually a cause for celebration. For Abdul Majeed, a native of Kalikavu in Malappuram, however, the long-awaited advice memo has brought more disappointment than joy. At the age of 61, he has finally received an appointment order for a post he applied for more than two decades ago — after he has already passed the age limit for joining service.
A 21-Year Wait
Abdul Majeed received the PSC advice memo 21 years after sitting the examination. He had appeared for the 2005 recruitment test for the post of Part-Time Junior Arabic Teacher under Category No. 229/2005.
The rank list was valid for three years and was cancelled in 2008. Normally, once a rank list expires, candidates lose any remaining hope of appointment. In this case, however, the situation took an unusual turn.
A vacancy that had remained unfilled for years was reportedly kept pending due to a shortage of eligible candidates. When the appointment process for the deferred vacancy was finally completed years later, Majeed unexpectedly received an advice memo.
Delayed Appointment, Lost Opportunity
The PSC issued the advice memo to Abdul Majeed on 24 April 2026. However, according to official records, he attained the age of 60 on 27 May 2026, making him ineligible to join government service.
Majeed alleges that the appointment process was unnecessarily delayed. “The vacancy remained unfilled for 18 years. The prolonged delay cost me my opportunity for employment. Now that I have crossed the age limit, there is no possibility of securing the job,” he said.
A Final Hope
According to the date of birth recorded in his SSLC certificate, Abdul Majeed was born on 27 May 1966. However, he maintains that his actual date of birth is 27 May 1967.
He believes that if the discrepancy is corrected, he could remain eligible for service for at least another year. Majeed has submitted petitions to the Education Minister and Advocate N. Shamsudheen seeking intervention and is now awaiting a response.
