Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) has invited applications for the post of Medical Officer (Short Service Commission – SSC) in the Armed Forces Medical Services.

Indian citizens, both male and female, are eligible to apply for the 100 vacancies, of which 75 are for males and 25 for females.

Candidates, on grant of commission, are liable to be posted as per service requirements in any part of the country or abroad, in the Army, Navy, or Air Force.

The initial tenure of SSC officers is five years, extendable by another nine years in two spells – the first of five years and the second of four years – for those willing to continue, subject to availability of vacancies and meeting the eligibility criteria for extension as per extant policy. Details of emoluments, promotion, departmental permanent commission, provisions for PG/Super Specialty courses, and other information are given in the Notification at https://join.afms.gov.in/

Eligibility: Applicants should have passed their final MBBS (Part I & II) examination in not more than two attempts and should have appeared in the NEET PG in 2024 or 2025. Postgraduate degree holders may also apply. Civilian doctors holding a postgraduate degree will not be required to appear in the NEET PG examination again; marks obtained earlier in NEET PG will be taken into consideration.

Applicants must have permanent registration from any State Medical Council/NMC/MCI and should have completed their internship on or before 31 July 2025.

Age limit: Applicants must not have attained the age of 30 years if holding an MBBS degree (born on or after 02 January 1997) and 35 years if holding a PG degree (born on or after 02 January 1992), as on 31 December 2026.

Shortlisting: Applications complete in all respects will be scrutinised on the basis of NEET PG entrance examination marks/percentile. Percentiles will be proportionately converted into ‘calculated NEET PG marks’ out of 200. The procedure is detailed in the Notification. Candidates will be called for interview in the order of the list (separate lists for male and female candidates) based on calculated NEET PG marks.

Interview: Eligible candidates will be called for interview by a Board of Officers at the Army Hospital (R&R), Delhi Cantt from 17 March 2026, to assess suitability and merit for grant of Short Service Commission in the Armed Forces Medical Services. The interview carries 50 marks. Candidates must secure at least 50% marks to qualify. Separate merit lists for males and females will be prepared by adding interview marks to calculated NEET PG marks. Those declared medically fit will receive joining instructions as SSC officers, subject to available vacancies.
