Amazon India creates 1.6 lakh seasonal jobs ahead of festive season

Amazon India has created more than 1.6 lakh seasonal work opportunities across over 400 cities ahead of the festive shopping season. The hiring is aimed at handling the expected rise in orders across Amazon’s e-commerce marketplace and quick-commerce operations, including its Amazon Now network.

The recruitment covers major metropolitan centres as well as tier-2 and tier-3 cities. Locations mentioned include Kochi, Varanasi, Jalandhar, Ghaziabad, Ranchi, Salem and Gorakhpur.

The seasonal workforce will support different stages of order fulfilment, including picking, packing, sorting, shipping and last-mile delivery. Tens of thousands of the opportunities have been created within the Amazon Now network.

10,000 more opportunities than last year

The latest hiring figure is higher than the 1.5 lakh seasonal positions created by Amazon during last year’s festive period. This represents an increase of around 10,000 opportunities as the company prepares for higher demand during the 2026 festive shopping season.

The workers are being added across fulfilment centres, sorting facilities and delivery operations, depending on local requirements.

Women and people with disabilities among hires

Amazon said thousands of women and people with disabilities have been onboarded as part of the seasonal recruitment drive. Most of the workers who have already joined are undergoing training before taking up operational responsibilities.

The seasonal workforce is being added to support the higher workload expected across warehouses and delivery networks during the peak shopping period.

Seasonal associates will have access to Amazon’s safety, welfare and social-security programmes. Through its Samridhi programme, the company will assist associates with registration on the government’s e-Shram portal, which provides eligible workers access to various welfare schemes.

For delivery associates, the Sammaan programme covers areas including insurance, road safety, financial inclusion and educational scholarships for their children. Amazon is also expanding its Ashray rest facilities for last-mile delivery drivers, with the network expected to reach 250 locations.

Logistics network prepares for festive demand

The additional workforce will operate across Amazon’s wider logistics network. The company has more than 43 million cubic feet of storage capacity across 15 states, while its sortation centres operate in 19 states.

Its delivery infrastructure includes nearly 2,000 delivery stations and around 28,000 hub partners. Amazon also works with independent contractors through its Flex programme and supports more than 1.7 million registered sellers.

The festive season is a major sales period for India’s e-commerce sector, bringing higher demand for warehouse processing, packaging, sorting, transportation and delivery.

Amazon’s latest recruitment is intended to add temporary capacity across these stages as order volumes rise. The expansion of hiring into smaller cities also reflects the wider spread of online retail and quick-commerce services across India.
