PhD admission at Cancer Epidemiology and Biostatistics division of RCC Trivandrum

Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) Thiruvananthapuram has invited applications for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programme in the division of Cancer Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Centre.

There are 6 full time vacancies. 

Ph.D Programs are offered in Statistics/ Biostatistics/ Data Science/ Epidemiology in the following areas: (i) Epidemiology: To study the distribution of health and cancer in populations and to identify the risk factors that influences the distribution of cancer (ii) Statistics/Biostatistics: To develop statistical prediction models and survival methods to estimate the risk for cancer survival (iii) Data Mining/ Artificial Neural Networking: To apply and develop Artificial Intelligence models for cancer research. 

The Ph.D. program in Epidemiology, Statistics, Biostatistics and Data Science of RCC is currently recognized by the Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, Karnataka. The residence requirement for the Ph.D. program is a minimum of three and half years after the registration and may be extended up to five years. 

Eligibility: Applicants should possess a first class Master’s degree in Statistics/ Biostatistics/ Data Science/ Epidemiology/ Public Health/ Engineering Science with not less than 60% marks in aggregate with experience in Data Mining or Artificial Neural Networking. 

Applicants must have cleared one of the National Eligibility Tests conducted by UGC/CSIR/ICMR/Department of Higher Education, Government of India (GATE) or should have valid fellowship of UGC/CSIR/INSPIRE/ICMR/KSCSTE or other recognized funding agencies. Those working in the funded projects in the division are also allowed to register for Ph.D. as per the University guidelines. 

Fee structure: Institutional research fee will be Rs.25,000/- per year for five years and Rs.10,000/- for each additional year. A caution deposit Rs 10,000/- will also have to be paid, which will be returned at the time of relieving, if no dues are prevailing. The University fees will also have to be paid as per the University norms in which PhD registration is sought.

Application registration fee of Rs 250/- must be paid by way of Demand Draft in favor of the ‘Director, Regional Cancer Centre’, and Payable at Thiruvananthapuram.

Filled application should reach ‘The Additional Director (Academic), Academic Cell, Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvananthapuram – 695011’ by 3rd June 2024. Copies of all relevant documents and DD for application fee should be attached along with the application.
