KVS admissions 2026-27: Online registration starts today, check steps

The admission process for young children in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) is set to begin, offering parents a clear window to prepare and apply.

The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) will start online registrations for Balvatika admissions for the 2026–27 academic session from March 20. Parents and guardians can submit applications through the official portal — admission.kvs.gov.in.

Admissions to Class 1 will be conducted through a lottery system, ensuring a transparent and fair selection process. No written test or interview will be held.

Once the lottery results are announced, shortlisted candidates must complete document verification and pay the prescribed fee at their allotted Kendriya Vidyalaya to confirm admission.

Eligibility criteria

  • The child must be at least 6 years old as of March 31 of the academic year
  • The maximum age limit is 8 years as of the same date
  • Children born on April 1 will also be considered eligible
  • Children with Special Needs (CWSN) are eligible for up to 2 years of age relaxation

How to apply

  • Visit the official website: kvsangathan.nic.in
  • Click on “New Registration”
  • Fill in details of the child and parents
  • Note the generated login code/registration number
  • Log in and select up to three preferred Kendriya Vidyalayas
  • Upload the required documents
  • Submit the application form
  • Download and print the confirmation receipt for future reference

Reservation policy

Each Class 1 section will have 40 seats, distributed as follows:

  • 25% (10 seats) reserved under the Right to Education (RTE) category
  • 15% (6 seats) for Scheduled Castes (SC)
  • 7.5% (3 seats) for Scheduled Tribes (ST)
  • 27% (11 seats) for OBC Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL)
  • 3% reservation for Children with Special Needs (CWSN)

Priority criteria

Admissions are also influenced by the service category of parents. Preference is given to children of:

  • Central Government employees
  • Armed Forces personnel
  • State Government employees
  • Employees of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and autonomous bodies

The structured process ensures equal opportunity for applicants while requiring parents to complete registration carefully and follow post-selection formalities within the stipulated timeline.
