KR Narayanan Film Institute invites PG applications for 2025 cinema courses: Apply now

KR Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts (KRNNIVSA), a Kerala government institution located in Tekumthala, Kottayam, has invited applications for admission to various full-time, residential, three-year postgraduate diploma programs in the field of cinema for 2025.
Courses: The PG Diploma programs are offered in the specialisations of (i) Acting (ii) Animation and Visual Effects (iii) Cinematography (iv) Direction and Screenplay Writing (v) Editing (vi) Sound Recording and Sound Designing.
Course Structure: The courses will include Foundation Courses and Specialisation Courses. In the Foundation Courses, each department offers theory and practical classes in their respective areas related to film and animation production. During practical sessions, students will attend various departments. Every student will undergo assessment in all six departments as part of the foundation course.
The specialization course will be related to the core subject chosen by the student. The student has to complete a project also at this stage.
It is desirable that those admitted to the Animation and Visual Effects program have a laptop of good configuration.
Eligibility: The applicant should have passed a recognised degree course. Keralites and non-Keralites are eligible to apply.
Selection: The first stage of the selection process is the preliminary entrance exam, which will be held on August 10, 2025, at Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kozhikode, Mumbai, Delhi, and Kolkata. The exam will have two parts: Part I will be General Awareness of 1-hour duration carrying 50 marks, consisting of objective-type questions. Each correct answer carries one mark. There is no negative marking for incorrect responses. Part II will be a Special Aptitude Test of 2 hours’ duration, carrying 100 marks, which will be of the descriptive type with short answer questions and essay-type questions. The questions for the entrance exam will be of undergraduate level. Details are available in the prospectus on www.krnnivsa.edu.in.
The second stage of selection will include orientation and interview for those shortlisted based on Stage 1 and will be held in Kerala. Further details related to Stage 2 will be communicated to those shortlisted. Admission will be based on performance in stage 2.
Seats: Each course has 10 seats. In this, 5% of seats are reserved for persons with disabilities. Of the remaining seats, 40% will be allotted to Keralites. Reservation details are explained in the prospectus.
Application: Applications can be submitted online through the Admission link at www.krnnivsa.edu.in latest by midnight on July 30, 2025. One can apply to a maximum of three courses based on priority.
The application fee is Rs. 2000/-. Women and applicants of SC/ST/PwD/EWS/LGBTQ+ categories have to pay Rs. 1000/- as an application fee. Registered applicants can pay the fee online up to midnight on August 2, 2025.
Admission tickets can be downloaded from August 5 onwards.
Annual tuition fee: Rs. 65,000/-. Other additional fees will also have to be paid.
Application processing, conduct of entrance exam, preparation of rank list and conduct of allotment will be done by LBS Center for Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, under the supervision of the Institute.
