Admission opens for post basic BSc nursing course in Kerala for 2025-26

Applications have been invited for admission to the two-year (24 months) Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing Degree Course in Kerala for the year 2025-26.

The list of Institutions in which the course is offered, the number of seats available, etc., is given in Annexure-I to the Prospectus at https://lbscentre.in/ 

Categorization of seats:

(i) Government seats: Seats against which the Director of Medical Education makes allotment are called ‘Government Seats’. Government seats are available in Government Nursing College, Trivandrum; Government Nursing College, Ernakulam; government-controlled self-financing colleges; and private self-financing colleges that enter into agreement with the government. In the case of Self-Financing Colleges run by institutions having minority status granted by the government or National Minorities Commission, 20 % of the Government seats shall be filled up from among the candidates belonging to the minority community running the college, on the basis of merit in the entrance examination

(ii) Management seats: Seats other than government seats against which concerned managements make allotments are called management seats.

Nativity: Only Indian citizens are eligible for admission unless otherwise notified. Persons of Indian Origin (PIO)/Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) will also be treated at par with Indian citizens for the limited purpose of admissions. However, PIO/OCI candidates will not be eligible for any kind of reservation. Candidates seeking admission to the course will be categorized as Keralites and non-Keralites. Details of eligibility for each and the documents to be produced for each are specified in the prospectus.

Academic Eligibility: Applicants, including service quota applicants, should have passed the +2/equivalent examination with physics, chemistry, and biology as optional subjects and passed the General Nursing and Midwifery Course (GNM) with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate from an institution recognized by the Indian Nursing Council or concerned State Nursing Councils. No rounding off of the percentage of marks to the nearest whole number is permitted. The applicant must have obtained registration with the Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council.

Applicants under the Service Quota should be regular employees in government service and should have successfully completed probation in the entry cadre. Provisional service (under MES/DHS/IMS) if any, before the regular appointment will not be considered. Total service will be reckoned as on the date of the notification inviting application for admission to the course.

Age: The upper age limit for general candidates shall be 45 years, and for service candidates, 49 years.

Selection: Admission to the course is regulated on the basis of merit as assessed in the rank lists to be prepared based on the marks obtained by the candidates in the Entrance Examination to be conducted by the Director, LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, under the supervision of Directorate of Medical Education. Those seeking admission under service quota also have to appear for the entrance examination and should qualify the same. The selection of candidates under this quota will be based on their seniority in service and the mark obtained in the entrance examination.

Entrance Examination: The Entrance Examination will be held at Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulum and Kozhikode on 16.8.2025. Applicants will have to choose one among these centres at the time of online registration. The Entrance Examination will have one paper of 90 minutes’ duration. The examination shall be of the standard of GNM examination and will contain 100 objective type multiple choice questions from all the subjects covered in the GNM syllabus of Indian Nursing Council, with a maximum of 100 marks. Each correct response will be awarded one mark. There is no negative mark for incorrect answers. The distributing of questions from each subject is given in the Prospectus.

Qualifying marks: Candidates belonging to SC/ST categories need to score a minimum of 35% marks and all other candidates minimum of 45% marks to qualify in the entrance examination and figure in the rank list. Service candidates need to score a minimum of 45% marks to qualify in the Entrance Examination.

Rank lists of candidates except service category will be prepared according to the marks scored by the candidates in the entrance examination. Procedure for selection of Service candidates is given in the Prospectus.

Application: Application can be submitted online at https://lbscentre.in/ latest by 8.8.2025. Prospectus can also be downloaded from here. Application fee is Rs. 1000/- (Rs. 500/- for SC/ST candidates). For service candidates, it is Rs.1000/-. Service candidates should remit application fee in any Govt. Treasury as per the details given in the Prospectus. Others can remit the fee online or at any branch of Federal Bank in Kerala, using Challan generated on-line during process of registration of application.

Allotment and admission to all colleges will be subject to receipt of approval of the Central and State Regulatory Bodies, Universities and Government.
