BFA admissions open in Kerala fine arts colleges for 2025; entrance test on June 29
The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Government of Kerala, has invited online applications for the 2025 admission cycle to the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) programme.
The four-year degree is offered at three prestigious institutions:
- College of Fine Arts, Thiruvananthapuram (50 seats, affiliated with the University of Kerala)
- Raja Ravi Varma College of Fine Arts, Mavelikkara (50 seats, affiliated with the University of Kerala)
- College of Fine Arts, Thrissur (57 seats, affiliated with the University of Calicut)
The first year is a common foundation programme, while specialisations in Painting, Sculpture, and Applied Art are allocated from the second year based on academic performance and student preference. The Thrissur college also offers a dedicated stream in Art History & Visual Studies with 7 seats, admitted in the first year itself.
Eligibility and Exam Structure
Applicants must have passed the +2 or equivalent examination and should be at least 17 years old by 31 December 2025. There is no upper age limit.
Admission will be based on performance in an entrance examination comprising:
Part I: Drawing Test
Part II: General Knowledge in Art and Culture (compulsory for all)
Part III: Creative Writing (for Art History & Visual Studies applicants)
Part IV: Subject-specific practical test (choose one: Design, Painting, or Sculpture)
Applicants for Applied Art, Painting, or Sculpture must appear for Parts I, II, and IV. Those applying for Art History and Visual Studies must take Parts II and III. Candidates opting for both tracks must appear for all four parts.

Fees and Application
Application fee: Rs 600 (Rs 300 for SC/ST)
Tuition fee: Rs 2,085 per year (plus admission, special, and caution deposit fees)
