Forest Research Institute Ph.D. admissions open: Apply before May 31

Forest Research Institute (FRI), a Deemed to be University; Dehradun, Uttarakhand-248195, has notified its admission to Ph.D. Programme in Forestry, 2025.

FRI is inviting Applications for enrolment in Ph.D. Programme in Forestry-2025 from those who qualified UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR NET/ GATE/ CEED and similar National level tests with or without fellowship/scholarship as well as from other candidates interested to appear in Ph. D. Entrance Test Conducted by FRI Deemed to be University.

Eligibility: Applicant should have completed: (i) A 1-year/2-semester Master's degree programme after a 4-year/8 semester Bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester Master’s degree programme after a 3-year Bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate (50% for SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/Differently-Abled, EWS and other categories)/equivalent grade. Those seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate (70% for SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/Differently-Abled, EWS and other categories)/equivalent grade.

Those who have completed the M. Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate (50% for SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/Differently-Abled, EWS and other categories)/equivalent grade or equivalent qualification are also eligible.

The Discipline –wise eligibility for admission to the Program for award of Ph.D. in Forestry only is given in the detailed Notification at http://fridu.edu.in/

At first stage, seats will be filled by the candidates who have fellowship/scholarship such as UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR NET/ GATE/CEED and of similar National level tests. The remaining seats will be filled by the candidates qualified in Ph. D Entrance/Interview conducted by FRI DU.

The Filled application form is to be submitted/sent to the research centre concerned for which the form is filled. The Nodal Officer of the Research Centre will send the application forms to the FRI Deemed to be University. The forms directly send to FRI Deemed to be University shall not be entertained. Applicants for FRI, Dehradun research centre only may directly submit their forms to the Registrar, FRI Deemed to be University.

Filled application should reach the Institute concerned latest by 31.05.2025 with a fee of Rs.1500/- through Bank Draft in favor of Registrar, FRI Deemed to be University, Dehradun.

The entrance test would be held in offline (Pen and Paper) mode at different Research centres of Forest Research Institute deemed to be University on 27.07.2025. Details related to the Entrance Test are given in the Notification.

The eligibility for admission to Ph.D. of a candidate who qualifies for fellowship/scholarship in UGC JRF-NET/UGC-CSIR JRF-NET/DBT-JRF/CEED and similar National level tests shall be within the period prescribed in their awardees' letter. In case there is no period specified, the marks of said exam will be valid for a period of two years from the date of issue of JRF Award letter.

The eligibility for admission in Ph.D. of a candidate who qualifies FRIDU Entrance Test or in the UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR NET/GATE/DBT/CEED and similar National level tests without fellowship will be valid for a period of one year. The candidates shall have to provide score-card of the marks obtained in the said exam. The interview of both categories will be conducted together in online/offline mode at respective Research Centres of Forest Research Institute Deemed to be University, in which the candidates will appear for interview at the concerned Research Centre at their own cost. The date of interview of candidates will be informed in due course.

Six-months Pre-Ph.D. Compulsory course would be conducted only once tentatively from the month of Sept./Oct. 2025.

Ph.D. Programmes through part-time mode will be permitted only to the in-service candidates employed on a regular basis/on deputation at ICFRE institutes/Research Centers of FRI Deemed to be University.
