Vessel navigator and marine fitter trade courses at CIFNET

Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET), Fine Arts Avenue, Cochin -682016; Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (Department of Fisheries), Government of India; has invited applications for admission to the Vessel Navigator Course(VNC) and Marine Fitter Course(MFC), for the year 2026-27.

The VN and MF Courses have been introduced by the Directorate General of Training, Government of India, New Delhi under the Craftsmen Training Scheme of NCVT. They are 2 years’ residential trade courses with practical training on board deep sea fishing vessels out at sea. The courses are conducted at CIFNET Kochi, Chennai and Visakhapatnam.

These two courses have been started with a view of producing practical tradesmen in the marine sector and manpower for the deck side and engine side of the fishing vessels.

Eligibility: Applicant should have a pass in 10th Standard with 40% marks in Mathematics and Science separately. Those who are appearing/appeared for 10th exams during 2026 are also eligible.

Age: Applicant should be between 15 to 20 years as on 1st August 2026. Upper Age is relaxable by 5years for SC/ST candidates.

Intake capacity: There are 20 seats each for each of VNC and MFC at CIFNET Kochi/Chennai/Visakhapatnam (Total 40x3=120 seats); For each, Gen/Gen-EWS/OBC-NCL/SC/ST categories will have 16 seats, selection to which will be through Common Entrance Test (CET). There will be 4 seats as State Government/UT Sponsorship seats at each centre/course, preferably from fishermen community.

Selection: Selection will be based on the All India basis Common Entrance Test (CET) to be held at Kochi, Chennai, Visakhapatnam on 04.07.2026 (Saturday).

Result will be announced on 14.07.2026 (Tuesday) and will be published at https://cifnet.gov.in/

Candidates have to check the result in CIFNET website and attend the centralised counselling to be conducted at CIFNET Kochi on 23.07.2026 (Thursday)

Stipend: Selected candidates will be paid Rs.1500/- per month as stipend. On completion of VNC/MFC, Post Institutional Training will also be offered based on the merit rank with stipend of Rs. 20500/- pm and onetime uniform allowance of Rs. 2500/- with the bond duly signed by the applicant/parent.

Application fee of Rs. 350/- (Rs. 175/- for SC/ST) has to be paid by way of demand draft drawn in favour of ‘Pay and Accounts Officer, Kochi’ payable at Ernakulam.

Filled in application along with necessary documents like copies of 10th mark sheet, valid community certificate if SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/EWS and Original Demand Draft Kochi must be sent to ‘The Director, CIFNET, Fine Arts Avenue, Foreshore Road, Kochi-682016’.

The last date to receive the filled in application along with necessary documents is 16.06.2026.
