Admission to Master of Science Programs at Radiation Medicine Centre BARC

The Radiation Medicine Centre of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) has invited applications for admission to two, 2-year (4 semesters) Master of Science (M.Sc.) Programs under the aegis of Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a Deemed to be University, Mumbai.
Programs and eligibility:
(i) M.Sc. (Nuclear Medicine Technology and Hospital Radiopharmacy) (NMT & HRP): This course equips candidates for working as Radiopharmacist / Faculty in Nuclear Medicine Centres and Medical Cyclotron Facilities. Eligibility: Applicant should hold B.Sc. in any discipline with Chemistry as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics / Biology as subjects in the H.S.C. level OR B.Pharm. from a university recognised by UGC with minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in Science Subjects at B.Sc. / B.Pharm level
(ii) M.Sc. (Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Technology) (NM & MIT): This course equips candidates for working as Nuclear Medicine Technologist /Faculty in Nuclear Medicine Centres / Teaching institutes. Eligibility: Applicant should hold a B.Sc. Degree in one of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology, Botany, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology (with Physics or Chemistry as one of the subjects in B.Sc.) OR B.Sc. in Nuclear Medicine from AERB recognised institute from a university recognized by UGC with minimum 60% marks in aggregate in Science Subjects.
Common conditions
Only Indian Nationals can apply. Eligibility obtained through Correspondence courses will not be considered. Age should not be more than 35 years as on 1.5.2024. The upper age limit can be relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST, by 3 years for OBC, by 10 years for PWD and Sponsored candidates. Those with physical disabilities limited to the lower extremities, but permitting to stand and move and physically able to carry out the course requirements will only be considered. There are 10 seats for each Program (5 Non-Sponsored and 5 Sponsored).
Sponsorship
Institutions/Hospitals, with a running Nuclear Medicine Facility, Universities, Government / Semi Government institutes, with the prospect of immediate employment in the same Institution can sponsor candidates for the Programs. The sponsoring institute should have AERB approval or should provide an undertaking that they are in the process of obtaining approval, for starting a Nuclear Medicine Facility and provide sufficient document to support such claim and confirm that they are in need of candidates with M.Sc. (NM&MIT) or M.Sc. (NMT & HRP). They should furnish sponsorship certificate as per Annexure-I from the Head of Institution, stating that their salary will be paid during the course. One seat is reserved for SC/ST/OBC candidate either from the Sponsored or the Non-sponsored category.
Selection
A Common Admission Test (CAT) for selection to both courses will be held tentatively on 15.12.2024 at Anushaktinagar, Mumbai -400094. It will comprise of 150 Multiple Choice Questions from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology of the level of Standard XII or equivalent. Minimum marks to qualify CAT will be 50%. A merit list of candidates qualifying the CAT will be made and candidates will be called in order of merit to attend Counselling Session. A separate merit list will be drawn for Sponsored Candidates. The date of counselling session will be notified on https://recruit.barc.gov.in/ / www.barc.gov.in. Candidate should personally attend the counselling session. Merit list prepared is valid for 2 months only from the date of start of the course. Candidates desiring to take admission need to undergo medical test in BARC hospital to undermine suitability for the course.
The course is expected to start by January, 2025 subject to approval received from Competent Authority.
Stipend
For M.Sc. Courses, a stipend of Rs. 18,500/- p.m. is given to each Non-Sponsored candidate. No stipend is admissible to Sponsored candidates.
Fees
No fees will be charged by BARC for the courses. However, a onetime enrolment fee of Rs. 11,000/- or as prescribed by Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) will have to be paid for the M.Sc. courses. A caution deposit of Rs.2000/- will have to be remitted by the selected candidates to BARC.
Bond
Selected candidates will have to execute a bond to complete the course for a period of 2 years. A student who fails to complete the course, will be liable to pay to the Government a sum equivalent to aggregate amount of stipend received by him/her during the duration of course along with interest thereon.be subject to change as per HBNI Notification
