National Institute of Design has invited applications for admission to the full time four year Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) Programmes offered at Ahmedabad and at NID Andhra Pradesh, NID Haryana, NID Madhya Pradesh & NID Assam which are independent autonomous institutes under the DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.

Programs (B.Des) offered at different centres are the following:

Ahmedabad-Faculties of Industrial Design (Ceramic & Glass Design, Furniture & Interior Design, Product Design), Communication Design (Film and Video Communication, Exhibition Design, Animation Film Design, Graphic Design), Textile-Apparel-Lifestyle & Accessory Design (Textile Design)

At Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Assam, B.Des is offered in Industrial Design, Communication Design, Textile and Apparel Design. There is a one-year Foundation Program at all centres.

Admission to all the programmes is based on the candidates’ performance in the two-stages of Design Aptitude Test (DAT)- DAT Prelims & DAT Mains. The objective of these exams is to assess the knowledge, skills and behavioural abilities of the candidates.

Stage 1 is the Design Aptitude Test (DAT) will be conducted on 2 January 2022 (Sunday), at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Guwahati, Goa, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Kurukshetra, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada. It will be a paper-and-pencil/pen test, in which the questions asked may involve text and visuals. The question paper will be in English language.

Stage 2, is the Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Mains for those shortlisted after the DAT Prelims and who will be invited to appear for the Stage 2 DAT Mains. Exact details of the Test Centre will be mentioned in the DAT Mains Admit Card.

Educational Qualification: Applicant should have passed higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities etc.) from any recognized board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or equivalent or should be appearing for this qualifying examination in the academic year 2021-22.

Age Limit: Indian National applicants should have been born on or after 1 July 2002. Those belonging to OBC-NCL, SC, ST categories, born on or after 1 July 1999 are eligible to apply for admission. For PwD Reserved Category, those born on or after 1 July 1997 are eligible to apply for admission.  

Application: Application can be submitted online at https://admissions.nid.edu latest by 4 pm on 30th November, 2021. Application Fee is Rs.3000/- (Rs.1500/- for SC/ST/PwD).

Applications can be submitted till 4 pm on 5th December, 2021, by paying application fee and late fee. The amounts to be paid will be double the amount indicated above (Rs.6000/- or Rs.3000/-)
