Toddler falls into rain pit, dies in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram: In yet another rain related tragedy, a  two-and-a-half-year-old baby girl died here after falling into a rain pit. 

The incident happened at Kilimanoor of Thiruvananthapuram district. Rupa Rajeev, daughter of Rajeev and Varsha, died at Vellaramkunnu House here.

The accident happened on Monday at around 4:30 pm. The child was playing with her elder brother at the back of their house. Later, the baby went missing. Then the boy informed his mother. During the search they found the child in the rain pit behind their house.

The pit was filled with water due to the incessant rain in the area. Even though the child was taken to the Kadakkal Taluk Hospital, her life could not be saved. The body is kept in the mortuary.

Kilimanoor Police have registered a case. Further proceedings will be held on Tuesday. 

The baby's brother is Jiva Rajeev, an Anganwadi student.
