A new report by cybersecurity and data protection firm Acronis has revealed that over 80 per cent of women working in technology believe having more women in leadership positions would lead to a better workplace culture. The Women in Tech Report highlights a notable perception gap between men and women regarding career opportunities, challenges, and barriers to advancement in the tech industry.

The 2025 survey found that 82 per cent of women think more female leaders would positively impact workplace culture, compared to 74 per cent of men who shared the same view. While 75 per cent of men said they believe men and women have equal access to career development, only 60 per cent of women agreed.

The report also found that 60 per cent of women feel work-life balance issues significantly affect career progression for women, while only 49 per cent of men view it as a major barrier. Furthermore, more than 40 per cent of women cited bias and stereotypes as obstacles to entering cybersecurity careers, compared to 33 per cent of men.

Acronis executive Alona Geckler, Senior Vice President of Business Operations and Chief of Staff, emphasised that addressing the gender gap requires action beyond good intentions. “Organisations must recognise these disparities and design programmes that expand leadership opportunities, confront bias, and create environments where work-life balance doesn’t hinder women’s careers,” she said.

The findings are based on responses from over 650 IT professionals across eight countries, including the US, UK, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Italy, Singapore, and Japan.
