IIT Roorkee grad now SpaceX principal engineer - Sanjeev Sharma's inspiring journey

Sanjeev Sharma, an alumnus of IIT Roorkee, is currently making waves on social media thanks to his LinkedIn profile. He now holds the position of Principal Engineer at Elon Musk's SpaceX, with many lauding him as an inspiration and role model across various platforms.
Sharma's remarkable educational and professional achievements have drawn significant attention. After graduating from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, Sharma's career took off, beginning with a successful stint at Indian Railways. He started as a Divisional Mechanical Engineer and served for 11 years, eventually rising to the position of deputy chief mechanical engineer.
In pursuit of further career growth, Sharma completed a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder. He then joined Seagate Technology as a staff mechanical engineer in 2008 and was later promoted to senior mechanical engineer. During his five years at Seagate, he also earned an MS in Management of Technology from the University of Minnesota.
After his time at Seagate, Sharma joined SpaceX as a dynamics engineer, contributing to the company’s revolutionary space advancements.
In 2018, he left SpaceX to join Matternet Inc., a pioneering developer of commercial drone delivery systems. At Matternet, he led Vehicle Engineering and later headed the Technology department. In 2022, he returned to SpaceX as principal engineer. Sharma recently contributed his wealth of experience to SpaceX’s Starship project, which has set new milestones in space exploration.

Currently, Sharma continues to innovate in space technology from SpaceX’s headquarters in California.
