Edapal (Malappuram): At a time when everybody is carrying sanitizer bottles along with them to prevent coronavirus, an engineering student here has come up with an easy-to-use sanitizer band.

Edappal native Rohit is the master brain behind the invention. The 19-year-old is a first year electronics student in Palakkad Government Engineering College.

Rohit's sanitizer band can be worn like a wrist watch. The band is filled with sanitizing lotion that can be used upto 30 times. Press slightly on the band and the lotion will be pumped to the palm.

The making cost of the sanitizing band is less than Rs 100. It can be used for long without any additional expenses. Rohit has decided to handover this useful band to the health department of both state and centre. He has also sent emails to the authorities explaining this.

Earlier, Rohit had invented an equipment called sensor-based dual alert collar for extinguishing fire and to inform the owner through phone call. Rohit won a National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement for this invention in 2016.

Besides, he received an honour from former president Pranab Mukherjee for making a lightweight shock absorber school bag.
