‘Kidney for sale’: Internet roasts iPhone 17 launch

# Tech Desk

Apple’s iPhone 17 launch barely wrapped but memes have already stolen the spotlight. Memes about the Pro and Pro Max models have taken over timelines, poking fun at design choices and hefty price tags.

Almost immediately after the launch event, memes started flooding timelines. One user shared a joke suggesting that even selling a kidney might not be enough to afford the new iPhone.

Another compared the elongated camera design on the back to a kitchen appliance, leaving people in splits.

The event, which kicked off on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 10:30 PM IST, saw Apple introduce its iPhone 17 lineup, led by the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. The new models feature a striking design, upgraded camera systems, and Apple’s largest battery yet!

Memes also poked fun at the new slim frame. A side-by-side picture of a bulky Peter and a leaner version read: “iPhone 3G (12.3mm) vs. iPhone Air (5.6mm).”

Even Apple’s wearables became targets. One meme showed a man holding up a shirt that matched the one he already had on, with the caption, “Apple Watch Ultra 3.” The joke hinted that the new model looked almost the same as the old one.

Some memes took aim at YouTubers. In one, Tom from the cartoon Tom and Jerry looked ready to smash an iPhone with a hammer, alongside the caption, “iPhone 17 is out, YouTubers in 2 days.”

The joke was about the exaggerated drop and stress tests that always follow a new launch.
