Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser, the creative force behind nearly all of the Grand Theft Auto titles to date, has confirmed that he had no involvement in GTA 6 but expressed confidence in the upcoming game’s story.

In an exclusive interview with IGN at LA Comic Con, Houser reflected on his legacy with the franchise.

"I think it's a great privilege to have worked on something that big. I wrote the last 10 or 11 of them, [so] I think the world probably had enough GTA from me," Houser said.

Despite stepping away, Houser believes fans can look forward to an exciting new chapter.

"It's not going to be a story that I wrote or a character set that I developed. I think it's going to be exciting. The game will be great, I'm sure," he added.

The confirmation comes amid heightened excitement following the release of GTA 6 Trailer 2 and Rockstar’s accompanying updates, which have fueled speculation about what is widely expected to be the biggest video game of all time.

What we know about GTA 6

GTA 6 will be the eighth main entry in the series, following Grand Theft Auto V (2013), and the sixteenth overall.

The story follows a romantic criminal duo, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, in the fictional state of Leonida, inspired by Florida.

Players will explore an open world centered on Vice City, Rockstar’s Miami-inspired setting. Development was officially confirmed in February 2022, with a major leak of unfinished gameplay surfacing that September.

The game was formally unveiled in December 2023 and is scheduled for release on May 26, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
