iOS 18 trouble: CCPA begins detailed probe into iPhone complaints

New Delhi: The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has launched a detailed investigation into technical problems reported by iPhone users following the rollout of iOS 18, official sources said Tuesday.

The consumer regulator had issued a notice to Apple Inc last year seeking a detailed response on the reported issues, including their nature, when they first emerged, and the measures taken by the company to resolve them.

However, with complaints continuing a year after the notice was issued, the CCPA "has now initiated a detailed investigation into the matter," sources said.

The development comes amid fresh findings from LocalCircles, which said complaints among iPhone users have risen since its previous survey in January 2025.

LocalCircles said it plans to submit the latest survey findings to the CCPA as an input for its ongoing investigation, as well as to other relevant authorities.

The consumer advocacy platform has also reiterated its demand for a class action against Apple Inc., alleging that affected iPhone users have not been provided a proper solution so far.

"The CCPA's escalation of the case and its scrutiny of Apple's software warranty terms is a welcome step," LocalCircles said in a statement.

At the same time, it cautioned that until enforceable directives or penalties are issued, relief for affected consumers will largely depend on "Apple's internal prioritisation and willingness to publicly acknowledge the extent of the problem."
