Honor’s iPhone killer is here: Magic 9 Pro Max packs 200MP camera, 8,800mAh battery

Honor has officially unveiled the Magic 9 Pro Max, introducing its first smartphone to carry the company's Pro Max branding. The flagship brings a redesigned camera module, a large 8,800mAh battery and a display with a claimed peak brightness of 10,000 nits.

The Magic 9 Pro Max was previously teased during Honor's ROBOT PHONE launch event. It is offered in three finishes — Olive/Moss Green, Silver and Shadow Black.

The biggest change is on the rear panel. Honor has moved away from the large circular camera module seen on previous-generation models and adopted a wide rectangular camera housing.

The module features a grill-style imaging ring on the left, which accommodates the LED flash, periscope telephoto camera and ARRI branding. Two vertically positioned sensor modules sit on the right side of the rear camera area, housing the primary and ultrawide cameras.

Display

The Magic 9 Pro Max features a 6.8-inch Supreme Black Diamond OLED display with a 2868 x 1320-pixel resolution.

The panel supports a 120Hz refresh rate, 4320Hz high-frequency PWM dimming and a 0.98mm bezel. Honor claims a peak brightness of up to 10,000 nits.

Performance

Powering the smartphone is the sixth-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile platform, paired with 2nm technology and Honor's Phantom Engine 3.0.

The device comes with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. It also features Honor's Jade Plate-level Cooling System 2.0 and the company's C3 RF chip.

Camera

Honor has focused heavily on imaging with the Magic 9 Pro Max, including a collaboration with German camera and film technology company ARRI.

The phone supports Honor's H1 self-developed imaging chipset and ARRI Log C3, a log video profile designed to provide greater flexibility for cinematic-style footage.

The rear camera system includes a 200MP OmniVision OV52A primary sensor with a 1/1.28-inch sensor, f/1.57 aperture, OIS and CIPA 8.0 image stabilisation.

It is accompanied by a 50MP ultrawide camera and a 200MP Samsung S5KHPE periscope telephoto camera with OIS and CIPA 8.0 stabilisation.

The front-facing camera has a 55MP sensor. Honor says this makes the Magic 9 Pro Max the first Android smartphone to feature a square-format selfie camera.

Honor is also offering a dedicated photography kit with G200mm and G500mm teleconverters, along with a quad-LED array zoom flash.

Cinematic microphone

The Magic 9 Pro Max comes with a dedicated cinematic-grade gun microphone and dual 1216 speakers.

According to Honor, the microphone is 84 per cent narrower than conventional microphones and offers 158 per cent higher sensitivity. The company also claims a 462 per cent improvement in physical noise reduction.

Battery and charging

The smartphone packs an 8,800mAh Qinghai Lake blade battery with 40 per cent silicon content and an energy density of 1,000Wh/L.

Charging support includes 100W wired fast charging and 80W wireless charging. Honor has also added an enhanced power management system.

Honor Magic 9 Pro Max India launch

Honor has not announced an official India launch date or local pricing for the Magic 9 Pro Max. If the company gives the phone a wider global rollout, industry tracking suggests that it could reach the Indian market towards the end of 2026.

Honor Magic 9 Pro Max price

In China, the Honor Magic 9 Pro Max starts at around 6,999 yuan, which is approximately $998 or €855 based on the stated conversions.

There is currently no confirmed Indian retail price because the smartphone has not been officially launched in the country.

Based on currency conversions and industry estimates, the 12GB RAM and 512GB storage variant is expected to be priced at around ₹98,999 in India.
