Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone may finally make its debut by late 2026 or early 2027, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Kuo's latest report suggests that Apple is developing a book-style foldable device, expected to be priced between $2,000 and $2,500.

The phone is anticipated to feature a dual-screen design with a left-right folding mechanism, a crease-free 7.8-inch inner display, and a 5.5-inch outer screen. Additionally, Apple may integrate Touch ID into the side button for enhanced security.

Apple’s foldable strategy

Apple has been working on foldable technology for years to tap into the market dominated by Chinese companies. The final specifications for the foldable iPhone are expected to be finalized in the second quarter of 2025, with mass production beginning in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Although foldable phones currently represent a niche market, their popularity is expected to grow significantly in the coming years, particularly if Apple enters the segment.

Beyond the foldable iPhone, Apple is also reportedly developing a large foldable iPad. Previous reports suggest this device could unfold to a size larger than two iPad Pros, enhancing gaming and media experiences while remaining portable when folded.

Meanwhile, Chinese tech giants Huawei has pushed the boundaries of smartphone design with the Mate XT Ultimate Design, the world's first commercial tri-fold smartphone. The device features a unique three-part folding mechanism, allowing users to expand the screen to a tablet-like 10.2 inches or fold it down to a compact 6.4 inches for portability.

Equipped with a Kirin 9010 processor, 16GB RAM, and storage options up to 1TB, the Mate XT offers a versatile experience for both productivity and entertainment. Its camera setup includes a 50-megapixel main lens, ensuring high-quality photography. Initially launched in China, the Mate XT made its global debut at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona.
