PM Modi consoles Vinesh Phogat: Today's setback hurts... Come back stronger!

Delhi: Following the disqualification of Vinesh Phogat in Paris Olympics, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his despair on social media. 

He shared a post on X hailing the wrestler saying that she is India's pride and champion among ther champions. 

 “Vinesh, you are a champion among champions! You are India's pride and an inspiration for each and every Indian. Today's setback hurts. I wish words could express the sense of despair that I am experiencing," he wrote.

"At the same time, I know that you epitomise resilience. It has always been your nature to take challenges head on. Come back stronger! We are all rooting for you," PM Modi added. 

According to sources, Prime Minister Modi spoke to IOA President PT Usha and sought first-hand information from her on the issue and the options India has following Phogat's disqualification. 

Sources further said that the Prime Minister asked Usha to explore the full range of options to help Vinesh’s case. He also urged PT Usha to file a strong protest regarding her disqualification if that helps Vinesh.

On Tuesday Vinesh Phogat, the 29-year-old from Haryana defeated Yusneylis Guzman Lopez of Cuba 5-0 in the semifinals where she used brain and brawn in equal measure to be assured of at least a silver in her third Olympic outing. Vinesh Phogat was scheduled to fight Sarah Hildebrandt of the United States in the women's freestyle 50kg finals. The bout was scheduled at 11:23 PM IST on August 7 and was expected to be a classic encounter.

Vinesh Phogat was sensationally disqualified from the Olympics final due to being overweight by a mere 100 grams. The shocking turn of events has left sports enthusiasts, fellow athletes, and millions of Indians shocked, with many taking to social media to express their disappointment.

Phogat, who was considered a strong contender for the gold medal in the 50kg category, was disqualified despite being just a fraction over the weight limit. The news has sparked widespread anger, with many questioning the harshness of the rules and the support staff's role in ensuring athletes meet the weight requirements.

Meanwhile, prominent boxer Vijender Singh remarked, "An additional 100 grams doesn’t really matter."
