Kerala State School Sports Meet, inspired by Olympic model, to kick off in Ernakulam today

Kochi: The Kerala State School Sports Meet, a major sporting event, will commence on Monday in Kochi, marking the first of its kind inspired by the Olympic model. The meet is set to run until November 11, featuring over 20,000 athletes across 17 venues in the city.
The event will be inaugurated by Education Minister V. Sivankutty at the Maharaja’s College Grounds in Ernakulam at 4 PM. The opening ceremony promises to be a vibrant affair, echoing the grandeur of the Olympics, with cultural performances showcasing talents from more than 30 schools in the district. Actor Mammootty is set to inaugurate the cultural programs.
As part of the festivities, a grand march past will see participation from approximately 3,500 students, representing their respective schools. The excitement will peak as the athletic competitions commence on Thursday at the Maharaja’s College Grounds, heralding a thrilling atmosphere at the sports meet.
While the official opening takes place on Monday, competitive events will begin on Tuesday at various locations, including:

St. Peter's College, Kolenchery: Volleyball
Puthencruz MGM HS: Handball
Kadayiruppu GHSS: Boxing
Kalamassery Town Hall: Powerlifting
Ernakulam Town Hall: Fencing
Tripunithura Palace Oval Ground: Cricket
