Glasgow: As the scaled-back Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games enter their second week, India’s athletes have successfully navigated a vastly altered competitive landscape. Despite being stripped of traditional strongholds like wrestling, badminton, hockey, and table tennis due to the strict 10-sport limit, the Indian contingent has amassed a hard-fought tally of 17 medals, comprising three golds, 10 silvers, and four bronzes, at the end of the first week.

The campaign has seen standout displays across weightlifting, athletics, and para-sports. Weightlifting icon Mirabai Chanu set the tone by clinching India's maiden gold in the women's 48kg category, while athletes like Murali Sreeshankar secured silver with an 8.09m leap in the men's long jump. Para-athletes have also shone brilliantly, with Dilip Mahadu Gavit sprinting to a gold medal in the men's 100m T47.

As the Glasgow Games head into their final stretch, several high-profile events promise potential podium finishes for India:

Men's Javelin Final: All three Indian throwers—Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, Rohit Yadav, and Yash Vir Singh—comfortably advanced through the qualification round and will contest the medal final.

Decathlon Concluding Events: Multi-event star Tejaswin Shankar has positioned himself strongly in second place after the opening day's disciplines, trailing only Olympic champion Damian Warner heading into the final events.

Triple Jump: Both Praveen Chithravel and Selva Prabhu Thirumaran have booked their places in the men's triple jump final, keeping medal hopes alive in the field events.
