Asmita Dey, Harsh Singh script history with India's first-ever Commonwealth Games judo golds

India celebrated a landmark day in judo at the Commonwealth Games 2026 as Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh won gold medals in Glasgow, delivering the country's first-ever Commonwealth Games titles in the sport.

Asmita set the tone by claiming the women's 48kg crown before Harsh followed with victory in the men's 60kg event, taking India's judo campaign to new heights and adding two more gold medals to the nation's tally.

Asmita overcame Canada's Heidi Quach in a gripping women's 48kg final that went the distance before being decided in Golden Score.

The contest remained evenly poised throughout regulation time. Quach struck first with a throw to edge ahead, but Asmita responded after receiving a Shido penalty, producing a timely throw to level the contest.

With neither judoka able to break the deadlock before time expired, the final entered Golden Score, where the first scoring move would decide the champion.

Keeping her composure under pressure, Asmita executed a well-timed throw near the edge of the mat to secure the decisive point and seal a historic gold medal.

Earlier, the Indian judoka had survived a demanding semifinal against Scotland's Sumer Shaw, a four-time senior British champion. The bout also went into Golden Score before Asmita emerged victorious by Yuko (1-0) after a contest lasting more than six minutes, according to ESPN.

Harsh delivers second judo gold

Harsh Singh ensured India's celebrations continued with victory over Australia's Joshua Katz in the men's 60kg final.

Facing an aggressive opponent, Harsh remained disciplined in defence and denied Katz any scoring opportunities during the early exchanges.

The final stayed scoreless until the 3:19 mark, when Harsh produced a perfectly timed throw before following it up with a pin to earn a Waza-Ari (10-0). The score proved decisive as the Indian judoka held on to secure the Commonwealth Games title, according to ESPN.

Harsh's victory gave India its second judo gold of the Games and added another historic milestone to the country's campaign in Glasgow.
