CWC 2026: Preeti Pawar wins gold, Arundhati enters final as India bags seventh yellow medal

Glasgow: India enjoyed another memorable day at the Commonwealth Games (CWC) 2026 as boxer Preeti Pawar clinched the women's 54kg gold medal and Arundhati Choudhary booked her place in the women's 70kg final, helping the country raise its gold tally to seven. 

Pawar delivered a flawless performance in the women's 54kg title bout, defeating Canada's Scarlett Delgado by a unanimous 5-0 decision.

The World No. 3 in the bantamweight division dominated from the opening bell, with all five judges scoring the first round 10-8 in her favour.

The 22-year-old maintained her aggressive approach in the second round, combining sharp footwork with accurate punches to stay in complete control before sealing India's latest gold medal at the Games.

Pawar had entered the final in impressive form after cruising past Zambia's Catherine Mwape 5-0 in the semifinals, extending her unbeaten run in the tournament with another commanding display in the gold-medal bout.

India's celebrations continued soon after as Choudhary produced another composed performance to defeat Wales' Rosie Eccles 4-0 in the women's 70kg semifinal.

The Indian boxer controlled the contest with disciplined defence and well-timed attacks, comfortably earning the judges' verdict.

With the victory, Arundhati has assured India of at least a silver medal and will now fight for gold in the final.

Her result further underlined India's dominance in boxing, one of the country's strongest disciplines at the Games.

The twin successes of Pawar and Choudhary capped another productive day for the Indian contingent, with the nation's gold tally climbing to seven. As more Indian athletes remain in medal contention across disciplines, India will look to build on its momentum in the coming days.
