Pranavi Urs created history on Saturday by becoming the first Indian woman golfer to win an individual gold medal at the Asian Games, holding off the field by a single stroke in a tense final round.

The 23-year-old golfer from Mysore entered the final round with a three-shot advantage but saw her lead disappear after a triple bogey on the third hole. She responded with three birdies to steady her round and eventually finished with an even-par 70.

Pranavi completed the four-day competition at 15-under 265, one stroke clear of her nearest challengers, to secure the gold.

Her victory also contributed to India's silver medal in the women's team event. Aditi Ashok carded a 67 in the final round, while Diksha Dagar finished with a 77. The two best scores from the Indian team counted towards the final team result.

India finished the team competition at 14-under 546, behind China, which took gold with a score of 22-under 538.

For Indian golf, Pranavi's victory marked another major moment. Her gold was the country's first Asian Games golf gold since Shiv Kapur won the men's individual title in 2002.

At 23, Pranavi's achievement adds a new chapter to India's record at the Asian Games and makes her the first Indian woman to stand atop the podium in an individual golf event.
