Former boxing world champion Ricky Hatton no more

London: Former world boxing champion Ricky Hatton has passed away, Britain's Press Association news agency reported Sunday. He was 46.

Hatton was found dead at his home in Hyde, northwest England. Greater Manchester Police said they are not treating the death as suspicious.

During his illustrious 15-year career, he captured multiple world titles in the light-welterweight division and one at welterweight.

Hatton, who won 45 of his 48 professional fights, last stepped into the ring in 2012.

"Rip to the legend Ricky Hatton may he rip," the former heayweight world champion Tyson Fury said on Instagram. "There will only ever be 1 Ricky Hatton. Can't believe this so young."

He rose through amateur and domestic ranks before taking on world-class boxers in Kostya Tszyu, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

Hatton was also frank about the mental health problems he endured following his retirement from the ring.

In July, he announced would make a return to boxing in a professional bout against Eisa Al Dah in Dubai in December.
