Camp Nou: FC Barcelona have officially completed the marquee signing of Spain midfielder Rodri from Manchester City, securing the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner on a contract running until June 2030. The Catalan club agreed to a £65.4 million deal with the Premier League champions, fending off competition from Real Madrid to bring the 30-year-old playmaker to Spotify Camp Nou.

By donning the famous blaugrana shirt, Rodri achieves a historic milestone. The Spanish international becomes only the sixth player in the modern era to represent the club as an active Ballon d'Or recipient. He enters an elite lineage previously forged by Luis Suárez (1960), Hristo Stoichkov (1994), Rivaldo (1999), Ronaldinho (2005), and eight-time winner Lionel Messi.

Rodri arrives in Catalonia following seven glittering seasons at Manchester City, where he established himself as the premier defensive midfielder in world football. The midfielder departs England after making nearly 300 appearances and winning 14 major trophies under Pep Guardiola, including four Premier League crowns and the 2023 UEFA Champions League. His arrival under manager Hansi Flick provides Barcelona with World Cup-winning leadership, having captained Spain to global glory, where he was named player of the tournament.

The midfielder stated that despite having alternative options, he had no doubts once the La Liga champions made contact, adding that his primary objective is to deliver Champions League success to Camp Nou.

The acquisition can be seen as a massive statement of intent for Barcelona as they look to defend their domestic crown and re-establish total dominance in European competition.
