Nora Fatehi lights up FIFA World Cup 2026 opening ceremony in Canada

Toronto: Singer and performer Nora Fatehi stole the spotlight at the FIFA World Cup 2026 opening ceremony in Canada, delivering a dazzling performance that electrified fans inside the packed stadium ahead of the hosts’ opening Group B clash against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Canada-born, India-based star emerged as the headline act of the evening, performing the official World Cup anthem ‘Siir Siir’ alongside Vegedream and Sanjoy. Her high-energy performance, featuring elaborate choreography, vibrant visuals and thunderous crowd support, became one of the standout moments of the ceremony.
The event marked Canada’s first-ever FIFA World Cup as a host nation and served as a celebration of the country’s multicultural identity, music and football culture before the action shifted to the pitch.
Canadian singer Alessia Cara was among the first performers to take centre stage, while acclaimed Indigenous artist William Prince opened the ceremony with a powerful performance that highlighted Canada’s diverse cultural heritage.
The celebrations concluded with a performance of ‘Illuminate’, one of the tournament’s 18 official songs, by Palestinian-Chilean singer Elyanna and producer Jessie Reyez, bringing the curtain down on a star-studded show.
With thousands of fans creating a carnival atmosphere in Toronto, the opening ceremony set the stage for one of the most anticipated matches in Canadian football history.
Co-hosts Canada began their World Cup campaign against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The hosts entered the match without their captain and Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies, who was ruled out through injury.
In Davies’ absence, midfielder Stephen Eustaquio captained the side, while Canada’s attack was led by prolific striker Jonathan David as the home nation looked to make a strong start in front of its supporters.
Bosnia and Herzegovina arrived in Toronto full of confidence after securing qualification with a memorable victory over European giants Italy, setting up an intriguing contest against a Canadian team eager to make history on home soil.
