Kansas City: The Netherlands convincingly secured their passage into the knockout rounds of the 2026 FIFA World Cup as Group F winners, producing a dominant 3-1 victory over Tunisia at the Kansas City Stadium.
Ronald Koeman’s side raced into an authoritative two-goal advantage within the opening ten minutes of the contest, completely overwhelming an outclassed Tunisian team. The early pressure forced a breakthrough in just the third minute, when a hazardous situation in the penalty area resulted in Tunisian midfielder Ellyes Skhiri inadvertently turning the ball into his own net to hand the Dutch a 1-0 lead.
The European heavyweights capitalised heavily on their momentum. In the seventh minute, forward Brian Brobbey doubled the cushion with a clinical close-range finish, a strike that was promptly reviewed and subsequently confirmed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
The dynamic of the encounter shifted slightly after the half-time interval as a downpour intensified. However, any hopes of a Tunisian resurgence were quickly extinguished. In the 62nd minute, Tijjani Reijnders whipped a precise left-wing corner towards the near post. Defender Jan Paul van Hecke rose highest to meet the delivery, guiding a powerful header into the top-right corner via a slight graze off Anis Ben Slimane to restore the Netherlands' two-goal cushion at 3-1.
Koeman utilised his squad depth in the remaining minutes, introducing fresh legs including Memphis Depay, Justin Kluivert, and Crysencio Summerville. Despite late offensive thrusts from Tunisia—including a powerful long-range effort from Hannibal Mejbri that forced a superb, fully extended fingertip save from Verbruggen—the Dutch backline stood firm to preserve the result.
