Mohamed Hany becomes first player to score two own goals in a single FIFA World Cup

Arlington: Egypt defender Mohamed Hany entered the FIFA World Cup record books for an unwanted reason on Friday, becoming the first player to score two own goals in the same men's World Cup during Egypt's dramatic Round of 32 victory over Australia.
Hany's misfortune came in the 54th minute when he inadvertently headed Aiden O'Neill's dangerous free-kick into his own net, handing Australia a 1-1 equaliser after Emam Ashour had given Egypt an early lead.
The own goal was Hany's second of the tournament, having also turned the ball into his own net during Egypt's 1-1 group-stage draw against Belgium, making him the first player in World Cup history to register two own goals in a single edition of the competition.
The defender's equaliser came shortly after a worrying collision with Australia midfielder Connor Metcalfe, which left Hany on the ground for several minutes. Egypt's players immediately called for medical attention as the defender received treatment before eventually continuing the match.
Despite the setback, Egypt recovered to hold Australia to a 1-1 draw after extra time before prevailing 4-2 in the penalty shootout to book their place in the Round of 16.
Australia missed twice from the spot, with Harry Souttar and Lucas Herrington failing to convert. Egypt were flawless, as Mahmoud Saber, Ramy Rabia, Mohamed Salah and Hossam Abdelmaguid all found the net to seal victory.
