Messi and Ronaldo together? Star-studded farewell match for Carlos Tevez at Boca

Buenos Aires: Argentine football icon Carlos Tevez is reportedly set to bid farewell to the game with a special match at Boca Juniors' iconic La Bombonera in December, with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo among the football stars who could be invited, according to TyC Sports.

Tevez, who retired from competitive football in June 2022, is in talks to stage his farewell at Boca Juniors' home ground later this year. The former Argentina international enjoyed two successful spells with the Buenos Aires club, winning 11 trophies, including five Primera Division titles, between 2001-04 and 2018-21.

The proposed farewell could bring together two of football's biggest names, Messi and Ronaldo, alongside Tevez. Tevez played with Messi for Argentina and shared the Manchester United dressing room with Ronaldo during his spell at the English club.

The idea reportedly emerged after Tevez approached Juan Roman Riquelme, his former teammate and the current Boca Juniors president. Riquelme is said to have offered La Bombonera as the venue for Tevez's final football farewell.

According to TyC Sports, a date has not yet been finalised. The match could be held over the weekend of December 12-13 or the following weekend of December 19-20.

Tevez is reportedly planning a playing XI made up of friends and former teammates from across his club and international career. During his career, he also represented Manchester City and West Ham United in England, as well as Juventus in Italy, among other clubs.

The opposing side is also expected to feature players who shared the pitch with Tevez, with the event planned in a "rest of the world format".

Around 60 football stars who played alongside or against Tevez are expected to attend the occasion at La Bombonera. Messi, his former Argentina teammate who recently retired from international football, could be among them, while Cristiano Ronaldo, Tevez's former Manchester United teammate, is also reportedly set to receive an invitation.

Tevez's most recent appearance at Boca Juniors' home stadium came in November last year, when his Talleres side suffered a defeat against Boca Juniors in the round of 16 of the Clausura tournament.

The potential farewell would mark an emotional return to the venue where Tevez established himself as one of Boca's most celebrated modern-era players.
