Manolo Marquez takes helm as Head Coach of Indian Men's Football Team

New Delhi: Manolo Marquez, currently managing FC Goa in the Indian Super League, has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indian men's football team. The decision was made by the All India Football Federation's executive committee during their meeting on Saturday. Marquez, aged 55, will undertake a dual role initially, continuing to manage FC Goa during the 2024-25 season while also leading the national team. His full-time commitment to the Indian team will commence thereafter.

"The committee deliberated on the appointment of the new head coach for the Senior Men's National Team and selected Manolo Marquez for the role," stated the AIFF in an official announcement.

Marquez, who began coaching in India in 2020, previously led Hyderabad FC from 2020 to 2023, where he clinched the ISL Cup title in the 2021-22 season. Since 2023, he has been at the helm of FC Goa.

Having enjoyed an extensive coaching career in Spain, including stints at La Liga club Las Palmas, Marquez expressed his honour at being appointed as India's national coach. He emphasised his commitment to achieving success for Indian football and thanked FC Goa for their support in allowing him flexibility to fulfil his national team duties.

AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey welcomed Marquez to the pivotal role and acknowledged FC Goa for their cooperation in facilitating the dual responsibilities. The tenure specifics for Marquez were not disclosed by the federation.

Former coach Igor Stimac was relieved of his duties on June 17 following India's exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. PTI
