Barcelona: Real Madrid will be without star forward Kylian Mbappé for Sunday’s pivotal Clásico at the Camp Nou, a match that carries the highest stakes for the Spanish title race.

Madrid enters the contest aware that anything less than a victory against Barcelona would officially crown their rivals as LaLiga champions. Mbappé’s absence stems from a hamstring injury sustained during a match against Real Betis on April 24; he has not appeared in a competitive fixture for the club since.

Heading into the weekend, second-placed Madrid trails Barcelona by 11 points with only four matches remaining in the domestic campaign.

Controversy and Recovery

Mbappé’s rehabilitation process became a lightning rod for criticism after the striker was photographed vacationing on a yacht in Italy while sidelined. Despite returning to training this week, the optics of the trip drew significant backlash from the Madrid faithful.

Representatives for the French international dismissed the outcry as an "overinterpretation of elements related to a recovery period strictly supervised by the club," further asserting that the narrative "does not reflect the reality of Kylian's commitment and daily work for the team."

While Mbappé currently leads LaLiga with 24 goals, his individual success has not translated into silverware; he is now poised to finish his second season at the Bernabéu without a major trophy.

Internal Turmoil

The injury news follows a tumultuous week for the club. Midfielders Aurélien Tchouaméni and Federico Valverde were each handed a €500,000 ($589,000) fine following a physical altercation during a training session. The confrontation was severe enough to require Valverde to seek hospital treatment for a head injury.

During a Saturday press conference, manager Álvaro Arbeloa vehemently denied that he had lost control of the locker room, directing his frustration at reports of internal dissent.

"A lot of lies are being said," Arbeloa said. "It's a lie that my players aren't professional. It's a complete lie that my players have shown me a lack of respect, not once... If things that happen in the dressing room are leaked, I think it's a betrayal of Real Madrid and what this badge represents."

The manager’s defiant stance comes as Madrid attempts to block out the noise of "leaks" and "betrayals" ahead of a match that will likely decide the fate of the Spanish championship.
