The next Ronaldo? Cristianinho’s portugal debut turns heads in Turkey

Lisbon/Antalya: Cristiano Ronaldo’s eldest son, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr, popularly known as Cristianinho, took his first step into international youth football on Thursday, making his debut for Portugal’s under-16 national team in the Federation Cup tournament in Turkey.

The 15-year-old winger, who currently plays for the Al Nassr youth academy in Saudi Arabia — the same club as his legendary father — was introduced as a 90th-minute substitute during Portugal’s 2–0 win over host nation Turkey.

Portugal secured the victory with goals from Samuel Tavares of Sporting CP — the academy where Cristiano Ronaldo himself began — and Rafael Cabral from Braga.

The match marked Cristianinho’s first official appearance for the U16s after previously featuring for Portugal’s U15 side. His promotion to the next age group continues a steady progression that has seen him impress at every level so far.

Earlier in May 2025, the teenager caught attention at the Vlatko Markovic Tournament in Croatia, where he scored two goals in the final against the hosts, helping Portugal to a 3–2 victory.

That performance cemented his status as one of the brightest young prospects in the national setup. Portugal’s U16 team will continue their campaign in Antalya with matches against Wales on Saturday and England on Tuesday.

While it’s still early days, the younger Ronaldo’s rise through the youth ranks is being closely watched by fans and football pundits alike.

With his father still going strong at 40, Cristianinho’s debut marks the beginning of a potential new chapter for the Ronaldo legacy — one that could see the family name continue to inspire Portuguese football for another generation.
