C V Pappachan to retire from Kerala police

Thrissur: C V Pappachan, the legendary footballer gifted to the Indian team by the Kerala police, will retire from service. On May 31, he will step down from Kerala Police Academy as commandant.

Pappachan was an integral part of the Kerala police team that won the Santosh Trophy and Federation Cup in the 90s. The veteran who lives in Thrissur, will bid goodbye to the Kerala police after making a remarkable presence in Indian football.

He intends to start an academy for goalkeepers and keep his active presence in the field of football. Besides, he plans to focus on his interests on Panchari Melam and try his fingers on saxophone.

Pappachan who began to tap the ball from the LP school grounds at Parappur in Thrissur district, which is his birth place, wore the jersey for the Calicut university and entered the football arena. He continued to play for Premier Tyres. He played in Sait Nagjee football tournament.

He joined the Kerala police force as an ASI in 1985. He was present in the Kerala police football team only till 1998. Later he joined the Indian team. He represented Kerala in the Santosh trophy tournament eight times. He also played in many national and international tournaments. He served as deputy commandant in India Reserve Battalion, Thrissur.

Pappachan was conferred with the President’s police medal in 2020. His wife is Beena who works as teacher at the Ramavarmapuram Government HS school. His daughter Pinky resides in Arizona in the US.
