Kuala Lumpur: With just over 100 days remaining until Asia’s premier women’s football tournament kicks off, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and Kelme have unveiled Wavemaker, the Official Match Ball for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026, scheduled from March 1 to 21.

The AFC said Wavemaker is inspired by the power and beauty of Australia’s coastline, capturing “the dynamic rhythm of ocean waves” and symbolising the determination of women athletes “riding the tide of progress and breaking barriers,” as well as their resilience and unity in striving for excellence.

The ball features gradient wave patterns that echo the surging tides of the Great Barrier Reef, conveying fluidity and movement to reflect the game’s energy. Its coral red and ocean blue palette pays tribute to Australia’s vibrant natural environment while also ensuring clear visibility during night matches and rainy conditions.

Design elements include layered, petal-like structures representing teamwork and radiant highlights that evoke moments of brilliance on the pitch, all intended to embody the collective strength of women’s football.

AFC General Secretary Datuk Seri Windsor John said Kelme has consistently delivered high-quality footballs across AFC men’s competitions, adding that the partnership will help ensure “our greatest women’s national team competition in history.”

Ke Yongxiang, Chairman of KELME Sports, said the company is honoured to provide the official match ball, noting that Wavemaker represents both performance excellence and the “spirit of strength” that drives female footballers. He expressed hope that the ball will inspire teams and encourage a new generation of women to pursue their dreams.

Patrick Murphy, CEO of AFG, described Wavemaker as “more than just an important piece of equipment,” calling it a symbol of empowerment and the unbreakable spirit pushing the sport forward. He praised the collaboration with Kelme in bringing the design to life for one of women’s football’s most anticipated tournaments.
