Kohli scripts history! Fastest batter to score 15,000 runs in ODIs, joins Sachin in elite club

Thiruvananthapuram: Virat Kohli has scripted history once again, crossing two monumental milestones in a single masterclass during India's run chase against the West Indies in the first ODI at the Greenfield International Stadium.

In a blistering display of power and precision, Kohli became the fastest batsman in cricket history to reach 15,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs). He is only the second player in the history of the game to breach the 15,000-run barrier, joining the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. While Tendulkar achieved the feat in 377 innings, Kohli shattered the record by reaching the landmark in just 303 innings—a testament to his unmatched consistency in the 50-over format.

Not content with just breaking the runs record, Kohli capped off his dominant knock by raising his 55th ODI century. Mirroring the way he brought up his half-century earlier in the innings, Kohli brought up his record-extending hundred in emphatic fashion with a straight six over long-on, taking just 74 balls to reach the three-figure mark.

The twin milestones came as India made quick work of a 296-run target set by the West Indies. Indian skipper Shubman Gill led from the front at the other end, anchoring the chase with a fine century of his own. Former captain Rohit Sharma gave the team a flying start at the top with a rapid 32 before throwing his wicket away to an aggressive shot.

Kohli and Gill’s dominant partnership pushed India past the 250-run mark, leaving the hosts just 38 runs away from a comprehensive victory.
