Australia's Travis Head etched his name into cricketing history by becoming the first batter to score a century and record a King Pair at the same venue in the same calendar year.

The milestone was achieved at The Gabba, Brisbane, during the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India.

The Gabba, often referred to as Australia's fortress, had been a nightmare for Head earlier this year when he suffered a King Pair -- dismissed for golden ducks in both innings -- against the West Indies during a day-night Test.

However, Sunday’s performance marked a complete turnaround as Head delivered a masterclass, dismantling India's bowling attack with a scintillating 152-run knock.

Head's Explosive Performance

Coming to bat on a pitch that initially favored bowlers, Head turned the game on its head with an aggressive and commanding innings. The left-hander capitalized on the bounce and exploited his favorite scoring areas, leaving India's bowlers struggling for answers.

Head's flamboyant batting not only stabilized Australia's innings but also shifted the momentum firmly in their favour. Before edging a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah, Head celebrated his ninth Test century and third against India, underlining his dominance over one of cricket's strongest teams.

Record-Breaking Feats

Head's 152-run innings added another feather to his cap, making him the first player to achieve the unique double of a King Pair and a century at the same venue in a calendar year. The innings also saw him surpass 1,000 Test runs against India, with a remarkable record of 1,107 runs in 13 Tests at an average of 52.71, including three centuries and four fifties.

Across all formats, Head's numbers against India are equally impressive. In 30 matches, he has scored 1,707 runs at an average of 47.41, with four centuries and six fifties.

Travis Head has established himself as a big-match player, with centuries in key moments such as the ICC World Test Championship final, the ICC Cricket World Cup final in 2023, and the pink-ball Test at Adelaide. His ability to deliver under pressure was evident again in Brisbane as he took control of the game.

Since the WTC final, Head has been in phenomenal form against India, amassing 880 runs in his last 11 innings at an average of 80, including four centuries and two fifties. His best score during this period remains 163.
