‘There will be no mercy…’: Fallout between Yograj Singh and Yuvraj Singh

Former Indian cricket star Yuvraj Singh has had a life marked by personal challenges, including a battle with cancer, alongside his cricketing achievements. In a past interview with Simi Garewal, Yuvraj revealed that he encouraged his parents to separate due to ongoing tensions at home, particularly his difficult relationship with his father, Yograj Singh, a former cricketer and actor. Yuvraj described living under the pressure of his father’s high expectations, explaining that Yograj wanted to see his own ambitions fulfilled through him and expected him to play for India.
At 17, Yuvraj chose to live with his mother, Shabnam Singh, whom he deeply appreciates for her sacrifices, calling her devotion irreplaceable. However, his relationship with his father remains strained. Yograj, who later remarried and had two more children, has openly acknowledged their tense bond, asserting that he believes strict discipline is necessary to build character, which Yuvraj and his family experienced.
"The day Yuvi entrusts his children to me, they will face the same trials he did. One can only forge gold through fire. There will be no mercy, for there is only one path… That’s what they fear, and that’s why we remain apart,” the cricketer’s father was once quoted saying.
Through all these personal struggles, Yuvraj Singh’s achievements—including his pivotal role in India’s 2011 ODI World Cup victory and hitting six sixes in an over in the T20 World Cup—have cemented his status as an inspirational figure in Indian cricket. His journey highlights not only sporting excellence but also resilience in the face of life’s challenges. (With inputs from Agencies)
