The Oval to host 2027 ICC World Test Championship Final from June 9 to 13

London: The Oval has been officially designated as the host ground for next year's ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final, scheduled to take place from Wednesday, June 9 to Sunday, June 13.

The International Cricket Council previously confirmed last year that England would stage the subsequent three WTC title matches in 2027, 2029, and 2031, granting the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) the responsibility of choosing the specific venue for each fixture.

This marks the second occasion The Oval will stage the showcase match, having previously hosted the 2023 final where Australia overcame India to claim the trophy.

With less than a year remaining, the current WTC cycle is approaching a critical phase, keeping all nine participating nations actively in contention for a place in the showpiece.

Australia leads the standings comfortably with an 87.50% points percentage after securing seven victories from eight Tests, followed by reigning champions South Africa at 75%. New Zealand remains closely behind at 72.22%, while Bangladesh has advanced into serious contention following a 2-0 series whitewash of Pakistan in May.

Two-time finalists India occupy fifth position with a 48.15% points percentage from four wins in nine outings, narrowly ahead of Sri Lanka at 41.67%. Meanwhile, England (24.36%), the West Indies (15%), and Pakistan (8.33%) face a substantial deficit if they intend to break into the final at The Oval.

The qualification race is set to accelerate across July and August via several pivotal series. The West Indies will host Pakistan in a two-Test campaign beginning July 25, while Australia aims to consolidate its lead by welcoming Bangladesh for a two-match series starting August 13.

Action then shifts to Asia as Sri Lanka and India contest a two-Test series from August 15, alongside Pakistan's three-Test tour of England spanning August and September.

Commenting on the announcement, ICC General Manager of Events and Operations, Gaurav Saxena, stated: "The ICC World Test Championship Final has established itself as one of the most prestigious occasions in the global cricket calendar, bringing together the two best Test teams in the world after two years of sustained excellence and consistency."

Saxena added: "The 2027 World Test Championship Final will hold special significance as cricket celebrates 150 years of Test cricket. The Oval has played a proud role in the history of our sport and has hosted some of its most memorable moments. We look forward to working closely with the ECB to deliver another world-class event that celebrates the enduring legacy of Test cricket and creates lasting memories for fans around the world."

The first three editions of the championship have each yielded a different victor, with New Zealand capturing the inaugural crown in 2021, Australia securing the mace in 2023, and South Africa concluding their drought for a major global trophy with a victory in 2025.
