Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal was admitted to the hospital on Monday after suffering a massive heart attack during a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match in Dhaka.

As per an ESPNcricinfo report, the incident took place during the first innings of the 50-over match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club. The 36-year-old cricketer reportedly felt discomfort in his chest.

"Initially, arrangements were made for a helicopter to transport Tamim to the hospital, but he could not be airlifted from the BKSP ground in Savar. He was later shifted to Fazilatunnesa Hospital," match referee Debabrata Paul was quoted as saying.

Iqbal announced his international retirement for the second time in January 2025. Previously, in July 2023, he had made an emotional exit from international cricket, only to withdraw his decision within a day after the intervention of then-Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The veteran cricketer, who last represented Bangladesh in 2023, has had a distinguished career, scoring 5,134 runs in 70 Tests and 8,357 runs in 243 ODIs. He has also amassed 1,758 runs in 78 T20I appearances.
