Rishabh Pant becomes fastest to 100 Test sixes during Galle Test vs Sri Lanka

Galle: Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant became the first Indian cricketer and only the fourth worldwide to reach the rare landmark of 100 sixes in Test cricket during the fourth day of the opening match against Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

On his path to the milestone, Pant also became the fastest player to hit 100 maximums, accomplishing the feat in just his 51st match, whereas former England captain Ben Stokes had previously been the quickest, reaching the benchmark in his 82nd Test.

Ahead of Pant on the all-time list are Stokes with 138 sixes, New Zealand's Brendon McCullum with 107, and Australia's former wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist with 100.

Prior to the start of the match, Pant stood on 97 sixes and subsequently equalled Chris Gayle's tally of 98 during the first innings.

Among Indian players, both Virender Sehwag and Rohit Sharma sit joint-second with 91 sixes each.
