New Delhi: Team India captain Shubman Gill, who suffered a neck injury during Day 2 of the Kolkata Test, will travel with the squad to Guwahati for the Test against South Africa, beginning November 22

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Gill has been responding well to treatment and will continue to be monitored by the team’s medical staff ahead of the match.

"He was kept under observation and discharged the next day. Shubman has been responding well to the medical treatment provided and will travel to Guwahati with the team on 19th November, 2025…,” BCCI posted in X.

Gill had experienced a neck spasm during India’s low-scoring defeat in Kolkata, which left the team effectively a batter short in the fourth innings as they collapsed to 93 while chasing 124.

Head coach Gautam Gambhir stated that Gill is “still being assessed,” with another evaluation scheduled by the physio and medical team.

“If we had Shubman in the lineup, the game could have been very different,” Gambhir said, highlighting the captain’s absence during crucial partnerships.

Should Gill be ruled out of the Guwahati Test, India may turn to left-handers B Sai Sudharsan or Devdutt Padikkal as replacements. Sudharsan had scored 87 and 39 against the West Indies in Delhi, while Padikkal has modest returns from his recent outings with India A and in earlier Test appearances.
