‘Monster in Maroon?’: Windies player given hero’s welcome after Gabba win accused of sexual assault – report

A troubling report has emerged from Caribbean-based media, particularly SportsMax TV and Guyana's Kaieteur Sports, accusing a current West Indies male cricketer from Guyana of multiple counts of sexual assault, harassment, and rape. According to the reports, at least 11 women, including one teenager, have come forward with allegations against the unnamed player, although no formal charges have been filed. The cricketer is reportedly part of the current West Indies national team and was involved in the squad that famously defeated Australia at the Gabba in January 2024.
Despite the gravity of the allegations, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has chosen not to comment, claiming unawareness of the situation. CWI President Kishore Shallow responded to queries by stating the board is not in a position to speak on the matter due to a lack of information.
Attorney Nigel Hughes, who was contacted by one of the alleged victims two years ago, confirmed that accusations against the player existed but seemed to lose public momentum after the player returned from the Australia tour. Hughes also noted renewed interest and inquiries into the case recently.
The SportsMax TV report suggests that there may have been attempts to suppress or cover up the matter, which has only intensified public concern. The situation has sparked significant outcry, with calls for accountability and transparency from officials concerned. The incident highlights serious concerns surrounding athlete conduct and institutional responsibility, demanding urgent and independent investigation into the allegations. (With inputs from Agencies)
