'Should take responsibility and finish the game...': Harmanpreet's message to Team India ahead of Asia Cup final

Dubai: Ahead of Sunday's Women’s Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka in Dubai, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur has called on her team to deliver a complete performance when it matters most.

While India’s path to the final has been heavily paved by top-order duo Smriti Mandhana (154 runs) and Shafali Verma (168 runs), the skipper is looking for the middle order to step up and share the batting workload with the championship on the line.

"We know we have such a good batting line-up, and I think when you have such a good batting line-up, it is only about whoever is doing well on that day," Harmanpreet said as per the ICC website.

"That person should take responsibility and finish the game for the team. I think that is the key on this pitch," she added.

India's campaign has featured strong individual match-winning efforts across the board, a factor that gives the captain immense confidence heading into the title clash.

"It is good to see that whoever gets the opportunity is coming up with solid performances," she said. We have managed to get runs on the board, and our bowlers are coming up with some really solid performances. So overall, I'm really happy with the way we have played so far."

The summit clash serves as a rematch of the 2024 final, where Sri Lanka pulled off an upset against India to secure the trophy. Preparing for another fierce battle, Harmanpreet remains focused on execution on match day.

"I think the last time we played against Sri Lanka, they came up with some really solid plans and performances. Winning in T20 cricket is all about who plays better cricket on the day," Harmanpreet said. (ANI)
