Brian Lara once played at Thycaud stadium; arrived on bicycle driven by KCA official: Actor Nandu

Thiruvananthapuram: West Indies cricket legend Brian Lara once played cricket at the Thycaud stadium (also known as Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium) in the city, claimed Malayalam actor Nandu.

Speaking at the Kerala Cricket League event, Nandu recounted that Lara visited Thiruvananthapuram when he was just 14 or 15 years old as part of a school cricket tournament. At that time, former Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) official K.R. Nair brought Lara to the ground on his red BSA bicycle.

“Nair, Sadique, Shaheer, and Hari were among the founding members of our club back in 1975. I joined the club in 1979. One day, around 5:30 pm, K.R. Nair came riding his red BSA bicycle with an African boy. He introduced us to this youngster, who looked around 14 or 15 years old. We didn’t know who he was then,” Nandu said.

“He had come to play for a school team from Trinidad and Tobago. That boy was Brian Lara. Lara himself has mentioned in his autobiography that K.R. Nair brought him here on a bicycle,” he added.
