Mumbai: Indian batter Sarfaraz Khan delivered a sensational performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, scoring a blistering century against Goa. The right-hander smashed 157 runs off just 75 balls before being dismissed.

Sarfaraz’s innings came soon after he was picked by Chennai Super Kings in the recent IPL auction. Representing Mumbai, he came in to bat at number four and took charge after arriving at the crease with the score at 101 for 2. He put together a strong third-wicket partnership with Musheer Khan. While Musheer was dismissed for 60, Sarfaraz continued the onslaught, dominating the Goa bowlers with ease.

He reached his century off just 56 balls and showed no signs of slowing down thereafter, eventually falling for 157. His innings included 14 sixes and nine fours, with 57 runs coming off the final 21 deliveries.

Powered by Sarfaraz’s knock, Mumbai posted a massive total of 444 for eight in their allotted 50 overs. The Goa bowling attack endured a torrid outing, with all bowlers going for runs. Arjun Tendulkar conceded 78 runs from eight overs.

Sarfaraz was bought by Chennai Super Kings at his base price of ₹75 lakh in the IPL auction, marking his return to the league after several years. He last played in the IPL in April 2023 for Delhi Capitals against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The batter has been in impressive form this season. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he produced strong performances for Mumbai and grabbed attention just hours before the auction with a rapid half-century. Against Rajasthan, he scored a fifty off just 15 balls, setting a record for the fastest half-century by a Mumbai batter in the tournament. This surpassed his earlier effort of an 18-ball fifty against Haryana.
