Darwin: Bangladesh recorded the most significant result in their red-ball history on Sunday, defeating Australia by nine wickets in the series-opening Test at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin to claim their first-ever Test victory on Australian soil.

The landmark triumph was established across four days of sustained dominance. After Australian skipper Pat Cummins elected to bat on Day 1, Bangladesh's seam attack stunned the hosts by bowling them out for 198—Australia's lowest Test score against Bangladesh. Fast bowler Hasan Mahmud led the collapse with a career-best 6/55.

In reply, Bangladesh piled up a monumental 426 to take a 228-run lead. Opener Tanzid Hasan struck a brilliant maiden Test century (101)—becoming the first Bangladeshi batter to record a Test hundred in Australia—while captain Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 84 and all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz added 65.

Australia's second innings faltered despite a defiant century from Cameron Green (104), who recorded his first Test hundred on home soil to avoid an innings defeat. Off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz exploited a wearing Day 4 surface to take 5/66, removing Alex Carey, Steve Smith, and Pat Cummins to dismiss Australia for 284.

Set a target of 57, Bangladesh knocked off the required runs for the loss of just one wicket.
